The passage of a giant of the bar and the bench

SCOTUSblog notes with sadness the death last week of Daniel Friedman at the age of ninety-five.  Judge Friedman is best known for his twenty-nine-year tenure on the Federal Circuit, the last of its original members.  But even before he was on that court, he gained renown as one of the great Supreme Court advocates of the twentieth century.  During his lengthy tenure in the Justice Department, much of it as the principal deputy to the Solicitor General, he argued eighty cases in the Supreme Court.
